The Hazel St. house was a remodel to an existing house, built in the late 40's, that was between 640-800 SF. The vision for the project was to create a contemporary structure within the historic district. This required design review approval from the Boise City Historic Commission. The existing structure established the front setback. It could have been pushed forward, but the owners felt the original setback was more comfortable. The additional space provided for front yard planters/landscaping that expanded outdoor living opportunities as well as creating a buffer from the street and strengthens the sense of arrival to the house. An underground canal bisects the property which pushed the buildable area to the west. In the end the exterior of the house is stucco, wood siding, and metal clad wood windows and doors. The two-story portion is set to the back of the site. The interior materials and colors compliment on another and are used throughout as a way to tie the place together. There are lots of built-ins, fabricated from birch. Information from the Parade of Unique Homes
