The owners had originally intended on remodeling the existing 400 square foot house located on this lot which was built in the 1900’s. The original structure was buried under 100 year's additions and needed a new start. They kept the foundation and added an additional area to create a new 1200 square foot home, from the foundation up. Designed by the owner and the Dwell Design and built on 5520sf flat lot in the historic East End, this small new home nestled into the neighborhood comfortably, even though it had a decidedly contemporary look with its shed roof, cedar siding and corrugated steel railings. The interior features elevated ceiling with glue laminated beams and architectural salvaged details like the salvaged carved teak piece between the dining area and reading room. Every square inch of this house has been well thought out and utilized. The elevated ceiling’s in the living room and dining area give one the impression they are in a much larger home than they are. The 600sq ft outdoor living area wrapping around the front of the house suits the owners frequently entertaining schedule and fits their needs perfectly. Information by the Parade of Unique Homes
