On Sydmor Drive there is an interesting house. At first glance this house seems unusual and out of the ordinary, but with a second look the true beauty of the home is manifested. This modern house is located in a new subdivision called Bridgewalk off of Boise Avenue. In this subdivision there are eleven lots that will soon be occupied with homes similar to this one and they are all designed by architect Robin LaBrie from Studio Architecture. This house, called a patio home, is architecturally significant because it has a mix of modern and craftsmen styles. It uses a variety of materials, including wood and stone. The natural colors as well as materials create a modern effect, and also give the house the atmosphere of the rustic lifestyle. The landscaping includes a creek in the common areas and large, preserved trees. Windows are a crucial part of the effect in the architecture and are always found in echoing patterns. Between the two main windows in the front of the house protrudes a large, wooden overhang that functions as source of shade. Various elements are used for function, while others are present for the sake of style. Before the subdivision was started, there was a large lot with a barn and the foundation of a burned-down house (which was found before they began building). This house was recently built in 2007, designed by an architect named Robin LaBrie. She enjoys building modern-style homes, but is forced to build craftsmen houses because of the market and existing architecture. She has designed around one hundred houses, and is in the process of putting together a Mediterranean-style subdivision.
