This unique house built in the early 1990s is located in a northwest Boise gated community. It may look like a regular house, but in fact it holds two families. There are separate garage doors on each side and the inside area is separated by sliding doors. The two families living in the house represent a modern version of the extended family; they are together yet apart. There are two kitchens, two master bedrooms, two living rooms, two of most everything, yet the separation is not obvious. The contractors gave the architects specific materials to work with and criteria to follow. The main material used on the exterior is stucco with wood and special design features on the inside. Since it was custom made for this family they believe that there is not a specific name for it, but it is "colonial-esque." There is a very large backyard against the river that holds a pool along the patio. This house is very big and has proved difficult for upkeep and more expensive to get typical services, such as plumbing, due to the gate. Inside the rooms vary in theme because the two families meshed their ideas. The formal dining room is shared between them. This grand house is one of a kind in the Treasure Valley.
